Meet Luana

I’m Luana España, and my passion for the outdoors has been a defining part of my life. As an avid trail runner and outdoor enthusiast, I’ve spent countless hours exploring the beauty of our parks and public lands. But my connection to these spaces goes deeper than just recreation — it’s my lifelong dedication to preserving and improving them that drives me.

For over a decade, I’ve had the honor of serving on various boards and advisory committees dedicated to protecting our parks and trails. I’ve worked closely with the East Bay Regional Park District Park Advisory Committee, the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council Board, and the Hayward Area Recreation & Park District Citizen Advisory Committee, helping to shape policies that make our public spaces more sustainable, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone.

My professional journey has always aligned with my personal passion. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from Occidental College and a Master of Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley. With these foundations, I’ve been able to advocate for smart, sustainable park policies and work with community leaders to develop initiatives that make a real impact.

I’m not just passionate about parks on paper — I live it every day. Running the trails is more than a hobby for me; it’s a way to experience firsthand the value of these open spaces and understand the importance of preserving them for future generations. My leadership roles have allowed me to blend this personal connection with the professional expertise needed to protect these natural resources.

I’m running for the East Bay Regional Park District Board because I believe that my experience and passion uniquely qualify me to ensure our parks continue to thrive. We’re at a critical time for the future of our public lands, and I’m committed to making sure that our parks remain accessible, safe, and vibrant for everyone.
